Celebrate Earth Day the H Street Way & Harriet the Hedgehog Gets Glam for the Atlas Gala (#49)
Also in this edition you will find more good news, upcoming events, promotions, and a blog post on Milk and Honey.
Celebrate Earth Day the H Street Way
Earth Day is Monday, April 22—and what better place to celebrate than right here on H Street, where local businesses and neighbors are putting sustainability into action.
Start your eco-conscious stroll with a stop at H Street Thrift, where “reduce, reuse, recycle” is more than a motto—it’s a mission. Find pre-loved treasures, give items a second life, and keep waste out of landfills.
Next, swing by the FreshFarm Market (Saturdays, 9am–12:30pm at 13th & H). Support local farmers and bring home the freshest seasonal produce for a true farm-to-table experience. Sustainable shopping never tasted so good.
Hungry? Treat yourself to a meal at Pow Pow, H Street’s fast-casual gem for bold, plant-based eats. With creative vegan bowls, Pow Pow proves that going green can be seriously delicious.
Looking for even more ways to celebrate Earth Day?
Join a Neighborhood Clean-Up: Help keep our corridor clean by volunteering with local groups. Grab some gloves, a trash bag, and a few friends—every little bit helps.
Walk, Bike, or Hop on the Streetcar: Reduce your carbon footprint by skipping the car. H Street is incredibly walkable and bike-friendly, and the DC Streetcar is a free and fun way to travel the corridor.
Bring Your Own Bag & Cup: Use reusable totes and travel mugs when you visit H Street favorites like Sidamo, Dolcezza, Hiraya, or Tango Cafe. It’s a small habit that adds up.
Plant Something Green: Celebrate life by planting herbs or flowers. Even a windowsill garden counts!
However you celebrate, Earth Day on H is a reminder that taking care of our neighborhood goes hand-in-hand with taking care of our planet.

Harriet the Hedgehog Gets Glam for the Atlas Gala
Harriet the Hedgehog is practically quilling with excitement—because the Atlas Gala is just around the corner!
On Tuesday, April 23rd, our favorite H Street socialite will be trading her usual coffee cup and canvas tote for something a bit more… dazzling. “I’ve been practicing my perfect selfie pose all week,” Harriet confessed. “You know I need that iconic red carpet shot with the Broadway stars.”
And this year, the stars are big. The Atlas Gala will feature Broadway powerhouses Christine Dwyer (Wicked, Waitress) and Rachel Potter (The Addams Family, Evita)—a dream come true for a hedgehog with a flair for the dramatic.
“I’m still debating the outfit,” Harriet said. “Something sparkly? Something floral? Maybe something *dramatic* to match the stage lights?”
The evening promises magical performances, a silent auction with spellbinding items, and a dazzling event—everything Harriet loves in one unforgettable night. Of course, she’s already placed her virtual bids (clever hedgie!) and is hoping to scroll the guest list to see which friends she'll spot—and who she hopes to meet. “There are some fabulous folks I’ve seen around the neighborhood. I’m manifesting a conversation.”
Whether she’s brushing up on her small talk or perfecting her twirl, one thing is certain: Harriet is ready for a night of theater, glamour, and community at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.
For tickets, auction info, and more, visit atlasarts.org/atlasgala. Maybe you’ll spot Harriet—and don’t be shy, she’s always down for a selfie.
