Harriet the Hedgehog’s No-Good, Very Bad Day on H Street (#46)
Also in this edition you will find more good news, upcoming events, real estate, hiring, promotions, and a blog post on Providencia.
Harriet the Hedgehog, H Street’s most enthusiastic socialite and coffee connoisseur, woke up Monday morning full of optimism, ready to tackle the day. With her usual boundless energy, she bounced out the door and trotted down H Street toward her go-to weekend coffee spot, only to be met with the most chilling sight a caffeine-dependent hedgehog could imagine: a locked door.
“Oh no… it’s Tuesday morning - they are not open yet,” she whispered in horror.
She stared longingly at the darkened interior, her espresso dreams shattered. But Harriet is nothing if not resourceful! Determined to turn the day around, she decided to hop on the DC Streetcar and ride to see if Dolcezza is open yet.
Except she missed it.
She saw the streetcar in the distance, ears perking up with hope, and sprinted. “Wait! Wait for me!” she called, but the doors slid shut just as she arrived, leaving her panting on the sidewalk. With a dramatic sigh, she turned to cross H Street… and immediately tripped over the streetcar rails, sending her tote bag flying.
“Seriously?” she grumbled, brushing herself off.
Refusing to let minor (or major) inconveniences ruin her day, Harriet decided it was time for some self-care. A new hairstyle would surely boost her spirits! She strutted into a favorite salon, Aurora Salon, picked out a fabulous new look, and left feeling refreshed—only for the skies to open up in a torrential downpour five minutes later.
“No… NOT THE BLOWOUT,” Harriet wailed as her perfectly styled quills frizzed into an untamable puff.
Soaked but undeterred, she decided to pick up a dozen bagels at Bullfrog Bagels—because if all else fails, carbs will fix everything. Clutching her precious brown paper bag, she splashed through the puddles, dreaming of a warm, buttery snack.
And then, the inevitable happened.
A rogue gust of wind ripped the rain-soaked bag apart, sending all twelve bagels tumbling onto the wet sidewalk. Passersby gasped. A pigeon celebrated. Harriet simply closed her eyes and took a deep, long breath.
“Okay. That’s it. I’m going home.”
As she trudged back to her burrow, drenched, bagel-less, and slightly traumatized, Harriet reminded herself that some days, even the best-laid plans go completely off the rails—literally.
Happy April Fools’ Day, H Street! May your Tuesday be slightly better than Harriet’s.
