Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler: H Street’s Ultimate Mardi Gras Celebration (#42)
Also in this edition you will find more good news, upcoming events, real estate, promotions, and a blog post on Little Miss Whiskey's Golden Dollar.
Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is one of the most vibrant and culturally rich celebrations in the United States. While its roots trace back to medieval Europe, the festival took on a life of its own after arriving in Louisiana in the late 17th century. The first recorded Mardi Gras in the U.S. was in 1699, when French-Canadian explorer Jean Baptiste Le Moyne Sieur de Bienville landed near present-day New Orleans and named the spot "Pointe du Mardi Gras."
By the 19th century, New Orleans had established itself as the epicenter of Mardi Gras revelry, with grand parades, masked balls, and the now-iconic krewes—social organizations responsible for organizing the lavish festivities. The colors of Mardi Gras—purple for justice, green for faith, and gold for power—were adopted in 1872 and remain a staple of the celebration today. Over time, cities across the U.S., from Mobile, Alabama, to St. Louis, Missouri, embraced their own Mardi Gras traditions, each with unique local twists.
But who says you have to travel to New Orleans to experience the magic of Mardi Gras? H Street NE is bringing the spirit of Carnival right to your doorstep with an unforgettable weekend of music, mouthwatering food, and unbeatable promotions—all while supporting our amazing local businesses!
