Pop Art Meets Politics: Mosaic’s “Andy Warhol in Iran” Is a Must-See Hit (#56)
Also in this issue you will find information on the Capitol Hill Yard Sale Extravaganza, ALDI's Grand Opening, and more good news, real estate, hiring, events, and promotions.
If you haven’t yet seen Andy Warhol in Iran at Mosaic Theater, now is the time — the run has been extended through July 6, and for good reason. With multiple sold-out shows, it’s become one of the hottest tickets on H Street this summer. I caught a recent performance and can personally vouch: it’s unforgettable.
Staged at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, this two-man show is an exceptional piece of political and pop-cultural theater. Alex Mills delivers a dazzling performance as Andy Warhol, channeling the pop art icon with eerie precision — his voice, gestures, and mannerisms bring Warhol’s unique persona vividly to life. Opposite him, Nathan Mohebbi is riveting as Farhad, a character whose emotional depth and intensity keep you leaning forward in your seat. The dynamic between the two actors is electric.
The writing is sharp and layered — weaving together Warhol’s visit to Tehran in 1976 with the political tensions of the time, while cleverly probing the intersections of art, revolution, and personal identity. The set design is clever and detailed, perfectly framing the tension and humanity at the heart of the story.
This production is not just a triumph of performance — it’s also a testament to the resilience and artistic vision of Mosaic Theater. The company recently suffered a major blow when $15,000 in National Endowment for the Arts funding — previously allocated to support Mosaic’s Catalyst Series of New Play Development — was rescinded due to sweeping federal cuts.
But hope is not lost. Mosaic supporters Frank and Emily Vogl have stepped up with a $25,000 matching gift challenge for all donations made before June 30. If you believe in the power of live theater and new voices, now is the time to show your support.
Looking ahead, Mosaic has also just announced its lineup for the 2025–2026 season, and it’s nothing short of spectacular. Audiences can look forward to:
Dodi & Diana
A Case for the Existence of God
Young John Lewis
Precarious
Each of these productions promises the same bold storytelling and powerful performances that Mosaic is known for.
Don’t miss your chance to catch Andy Warhol in Iran before it closes on July 6. And if you can, donate to help Mosaic continue bringing vital, thought-provoking theater to the H Street community. Let’s keep the arts alive — and thriving.

H Street Herald: Capitol Hill Yard Sale Extravaganza Set for Saturday, June 7
Ready, set, rummage! The first-ever Capitol Hill Yard Sale Extravaganza is happening this Saturday, June 7, starting at 9 a.m.—and it’s shaping up to be a neighborhood event to remember. With nearly 100 homes participating, including many just steps off H Street, this is your chance to explore, connect, and score some incredible secondhand treasures.
Inspired by Adams Morgan’s “The Mother of All Yard Sales” in May, this new tradition came together in record time thanks to the leadership and vision of The Hill is Home. The energy behind this grassroots event is pure Capitol Hill: collaborative, community-driven, and fun.
To make the most of your day, we recommend a strategic approach. Start the morning strong with a workout at Orangetheory Fitness, SolidCore, MADabolic, or SWEATDC on H Street, or take it slower and let your sale-hopping stroll double as your Zone 2 cardio. Fuel up at neighborhood favorites like Sidamo, Dolcezza, or Bullfrog Bagels before heading out on your treasure hunt.
Here’s a local secret: use the DC Streetcar and Capitol Bikeshare to zip between clusters of sales. Don’t forget to bring reusable bags, a wagon, or a foldable cart to haul home your finds—you never know when you’ll stumble on the perfect lamp, vintage jacket, or gently loved toy.
Grab the official garage sale map from The Hill is Home, plan your route, and we’ll see you out there! With a little luck and a lot of curiosity, you're bound to come home with a few diamonds in the rough.
